Synopsis An old man with a warm image of someone’s grandfather is abandoned at a train station. The old man tries his best to communicate with people, but fails. The man does not even know how to use the restroom, let alone acquire food. It seems like there is nothing the old man can do except wait for someone. If one looks closely, one can see that the old man is always holding something in his tightly closed right hand. The man seems to be doing something. This is a story about an old man that has been abandoned because he is suffering from dementia. The movie is based on observations of the man. Purpose of Production GRAND.FA.THER is about an old man who is but a shell of his former self and the people he encounters. I focused on the conversations between the old man and the people he encounters. I expressed the theme of estrangement through grotesque ambience and cinematography that emphasized empty spaces.
